After weeks of consistently rising up the rankings, Bishop Gorman has reached the acclaimed position of No. 1 on the DigitalSports National Football Rankings. The Gaels move up following an eleven-touchdown performance in a 77-0 triumph over Durango.
Sophomore Tate Martell only needed to complete five of his seven passes to gain 69 yards and two touchdowns. On top of that, Martell added 36 yards on the ground.
On the ground, Russell Booze gained 47 yards and another two scores on seven carries. Four other Gorman running backs found their way into the endzone, all coming from rushes farther than 10 yards out.
No individual player, aside from Martell, gained over 100 total yards. This is because of the excellent field position Gorman’s defense and special teams continued to give the offense. On top of that, the Gaels returned a punt and two interceptions for scores, leading to 21 non-offensive points.
Backed by consistency on both sides of the ball, the Gaels deserve to be the No. 1 team in the nation. At 8-0, nothing and no one seems to be able to stop Bishop Gorman on its quest to complete the perfect season.
